19 March 2018 – With just four rounds of matches remaining, the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League looks set to go down to the wire as log leaders Maccabi FC have JDR Stars and, African All Stars and Dondol Stars breathing down their necks as the race for the title heats up.
The log leaders are on top of the log with 52 points but have played a game extra compared to second placed JDR who registered a hard fought 2-1 win over Dube Continental over the weekend. Maccabi have themselves to blame after surrendering a lead to draw 1-1 at away to Leruma United.
A vital 1-0 win for African All Stars over Thembisa Sports Centre sees them sit third with 47 points and would need to win all their remaining matches and hope Maccabi and JDR drop points in their last fixtures.
Dondol Stars are quietly going about their business and may spring a surprise right at the end of the season. Their 3-0 thrashing of Pretoria Callies sees them tied on pints with African All Stars with the advantage of a game in hand.
Looking further down at the log, Garankuwa United are set to go down to the SAB League with a disappointing 7 points from 26 matches while Leruma United and Thembisa Sport Centre have it all to play for to avoid the dagger that looms as the season draws its conclusion.
