13 October 2023 – Bafana Bafana were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by Eswatini at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Friday night.

The South African senior men’s team created very few clear-cut opportunities during a game that had coach Hugo Broos pulling his hair in frustration. While the home team had the better of the possession, they could not make it count and put the visitors to the sword. The Bafana Bafana coach wanted to see more from his players and was left disappointed when the game ended in a share of the spoils.

He said after the match he experienced a roller coaster ride of emotions during the game and was not happy with the final outcome.

“Frustration, anger and disbelief. I didn’t believe what I saw in the first half, also the second half,” he said.

He said he hopes the outcome serves as a wakeup call as the team continues to prepare for the Africa Cup of Nations in January next year, and for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November.

Bafana Bafana travel to Abidjan on Saturday (14 October 2023) ahead of their next international friendly match against next year’s Africa Cup of Nations hosts Côte d’Ivoire on 17 October 2023.
