9 July 2023 – The South African Football Association hosted the inaugural U15 Technical Development Scheme Tournament out at Panorama Football Club in Honeydew over the weekend where the first-ever U15 National boys Team was selected. 

The nine Provincial teams, which were selected over three months, went head-to-head with six invited academies from around the country. 

Kaizer Chiefs U15 beat KwaZulu Natal 2-1 in the final. 

SAFA Technical Director Walter Steenbok was highly impressed with the level of football displayed over the weekend. 

Speaking to www.www.safa.net, Steenbok said he was very happy that the provinces prepared well and  the final was played by a province and an academy.  

A  Technical Study Group was present throughout the weekend and selected a pool of players that will make up the first-ever U15 National Team, which will ultimately become the next group of U17 National Team in 2025.
