26 June 2023 – Banyana Banyana have qualified to represent South Africa and participate in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted in Australia and New Zealand from 20 July – 20 August 2023.

To celebrate this huge achievement, The Charlotte Mannya-Maxeke Institute (CMMI), in partnership with the South African Football Association (SAFA), is hosting the South Africa senior women’s national team in a  Send-Off Golf Day set for 30 June 2023 at Randpark Golf Club.

The Send-Off Golf Day will be a platform that will attract companies, institutions and individuals to contribute to the development of women’s football, which is less funded and has far less resources than the men’s game. Through the teachings of icon Mme Maxeke, which centers around equality, the CMMI is making a clarion call to government and the private sector to work towards an ideal society of an equal society. The CMMI would like use this opportunity to amplify the work of empowering young girls and women. Mme Maxeke believed in bringing others up whenever we rise, and this is the time and the platform. The achievements by Banyana Banyana  has inspired many, and will continue to inspire young girls in different corners of the country, especially from the  townships and villages.

The CMMI is making a clarion call to government and private sector to incentivise the ladies that will represent the country at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup by building or donating a house for each player. Beyond this great achievement and beyond the final whistle at the pinnacle of their career through this move, they will have a place they can call home. This will go a long way in motivating them to go the extra mile and continue to break boundaries. We hope that through a public and private partnership, we can achieve this and create a lasting legacy for our ladies going to the World Cup.

Through this Send-Off Golf Day the CMMI is also raising funds for Banyana Banyana players’ social responsibility program, which they will undertake immediately after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Together with SAFA, the CMMI will draw up a schedule for them to go back to their communities and former clubs to donate soccer kits, equipment, and other needs. This Golf Day will go beyond just celebrating this historic moment, it will be a platform to appreciate the Banyana Banyana squad and to motivate them to reach their full potential in the tournament. This initiative will also highlight, promote and profile each woman in the squad.
