4 May 2019 – The South African U-20 Women’s National Team (Basetsana), arrived in Hong Kong on Saturday, 4 May 2019 enroute Xiamen, where they will participate in a 4 nations tournament from 6 to 10 May 2019 against three Asian teams.

South Africa has been invited by the Chinese Football Association along with Vietnam and Thailand, to build women’s football and ensure that the development of the game is growing internationally.

Tournament Head Coach Sheryl Botes is very excited at the prospects of playing the Asian based countries and believes that her squad will be a force to be reckoned with.

“We have a very good group of players who already have national caps and international experience.

A few of them participated in the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Uruguay, late last year and a few others have been part of the national set up for a few years. Some also participate in the Zone 5 region games, which we won.

I believe that we have a great chance of displaying our skills in this tournament, but we are definitely here to gain experience and compete against different styles of play and tactical strategies;”said Botes.
