7 December 2017 – Defending champions Bloemfontein Celtic will face Cape Town Roses in the final of the 2017 Sasol League National Championship.
The clash will take place on Saturday, 9 December 2017.
Kickoff is at 15h00.
Celtic defeated debutants Thunderbirds of the Eastern Cape 4-0 in a one-sided semi-final played on Thursday, 7 December.
The Free State side is the only ever-present team to have qualified for all nine editions of the women’s national championship, which they won for the first time in 2016.
Thunderbirds will contest the 3rd/4th Place Play Off against hosts Coal City Wizards also on Saturday at 11h30.
Wizards lost 4-0 to Roses of the Western Cape in the first semi-final played earlier in the day. In 2016, Wizards finished in fourth place.
This will be Roses’ fourth final in the championship. They lifted the trophy in 2014 and were runners up in 2012 and 2015, but failed to qualify in 2016.
In other matches played earlier, newcomers De’Scorpion (North West) finished in eighth place following a 2-1 loss to Kanatla Ladies (Limpopo), while Sunflower FC (KwaZulu Natal) stunned the star-starded Mamelodi Sundowns (Gauteng) 1-0 in an exciting match.
Sunflower exited the tournament on fifth position – quite an achievement for a very young and talented group of players who tasted their first championship this year.
There will be no play on Friday, 8 December as it will be rest day for the teams.
