25 October 2017 – The Sasol League Western Cape league title remains on a knife’s edge following the past weekend’s results.
Leaders, UWC Ladies romped to a 3-0 win away to Dangerous Heroes on Friday evening to maintain their slender two-point lead with only two rounds of league action remaining.
Hot on their heels are the Cape Town Roses side that also secured a 3-0 win, this time against Ikamva FC at Nyanga Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Roses will be hoping UWC drops points in the next two weeks if they are to have any chance of participating at the National Championship in December.
Vasco da Gama maintained their grip on third place with a comfortable 4-0 win over relegation threatened Manenberg Ladies at Parow Park on Friday evening. They have a two-point lead over Santos Ladies who had an easy outing against Southern Stars, dispatching them 7-0 on Saturday evening.
Mid table Portia United hosted Milano Ladies United and collected maximum points in their midtable clash at Mandela Park.
Other fixtures saw Maties and Virgo play to a 1-1 draw and Spurs Ladies went down 3-1 at home against RV United to maintain their fifth place on the log.
Notably, Sasol recently renewed their sponsorship of the country’s premier women’s football league, an initiative that has played an integral part in contributing to the growth and development of women’s football in South Africa for another four (4) years until 2021.
The Sasol League takes place across all the nine provinces of South Africa. Matches are played on Saturdays and Sundays in the afternoon and will culminate with the National Championships that take place over a period of one week towards the end of the year.
