6 September 2017 – Midfielders Luke le Roux and Tashreeq Matthews, as well as striker Lyle Foster were part of the Burger King-sponsored Amajita squad that travelled to England to play two matches against the host nation and Brazil.
South Africa lost 4-0 in the first clash but recovered well to defeat England 2-1 in the second fixture – with goals scored by Foster and Matthews.
Le Roux and Foster were teammates in the U17 team that took part in the inaugural BRICS tournament played in Goa, India in 2016. The former was the captain of the squad.
Matthews was playing his first international match –Amajita stand-in coach Helman Mkhalele spotted him at the 2016 U19 Men’s Burger King tournament, where he was playing for Ajax Cape Town.
Mkhalele was one of the selectors at the event held in Cape Town.
Amajita are back in the country after their England visit.
Le Roux is on the books of Stellenbosch FC, Foster is with Orlando Pirates while Matthews is still tied with Ajax Cape Town.
