10 February 2024 – The South African U17 Women’s National Team was eliminated from the 2024 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers by Ethiopia on Saturday afternoon at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
This after their home leg ended in a goalless draw. Ethiopia progress to the last round of qualifiers with a 3-0 aggregate win over South Africa after they put three goals past them last weekend in Ethiopia.
Speaking to www.safa.net U17 Head Coach Nthabeleng Modiko said they gave it their all but failed to convert any of the chances they created.
“I must admit we played much better today as we penetrated Ethiopia, but we failed to score, and that’s the only way to win a match.
Our defense was very solid, and this was a great display of football,” said Modiko.
