30 November 2023 – South African Football Association (SAFA) President Dr Danny Jordaan and CEO Lydia Monyepao have been invited to the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia. The final will take place in Jeddah on 22 December 2023.

FIFA President  Gianni Infantino has also invited the SAFA President and the CEO to the second edition of the World Football Summit also in Jeddah on 21 December 2023, a day before the Club World Cup final. The Summit will bring together key decision- makers from the global football industry.

This year’s edition of the FIFA Club World Cup will once again see the club champions from all six continents come together, alongside the current champions of Saudi Arabia, competing for the much-coveted trophy. The final will take place at the magnificent King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah.

The participants in this year’s edition are Al Ahly, Fluminense, Manchester City, Urawa Red Diamonds, Leon, Auckland City and Al-Ittihad. Dr Jordaan said Al Ahly would fly the African flag in the tournament and the continent would back the Egyptian powerhouses.

It is expected that over 1,500 delegates will attend the Summit and provide a platform for a discussion to shape the future of football. The event will feature 150 speakers, with 70% of the attendees being decision-makers in football. Over 100 media representatives are expected to attend.

In a letter the SAFA President, Mr Infantino said: ” I very much hope that you can join me in being part of this moment. In addition, I would also like to invite you to the FIFA Football Summit 2023, which is scheduled to take place in Jeddah on the morning of 21 December 2023, the day before the Final. The Summit will allow us to convene for an update on matters of strategic interest for world football. For those unable to attend physically, you are also very welcome to participate online.”
