24 November 2023 – SAFA Technical Director Walter Steenbok concluded a long-week visit to selected SAFA Regions on Friday (24 November 2023) with the last visit to SAFA Amajuba. The visit to various Regions was to launch the U15 Girls Inter-LFA Leagues.
The tour began on Monday, 20 November 2023 in Limpopo in which SAFA Waterberg were the first recipients of the exciting Girls programme.
SAFA Nkangala was the next to launch their program on Tuesday, 21 November 2023, while SAFA Thabo Mofutsanyana and Amajuba followed in the programme.
“This is a pilot program and these four Regions were identified because of the work they are doing on the ground for Women’s Football Development,” said Steenbok.
“We would love to have all of SAFA’s 52 Regions around the country to be part of this programme, but we need local partners to come on board to support this initiative.
‘’During the presentations throughout the week we suggested to the regions how to structure the league. A total of 38 coaches from the different LFA’s have to be part of the programme,’’ added Steenbok.
‘’We suggested that they play ones a month between December 2023 – March 2024, in different Local Football Associations (LFA’s) and that we need 20 players in each squad with rotating substitutions. However, the structure of the tournament is initially up to how their Local Organising Committee wants to do it,” concluded Steenbok.
