16 November 2023 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) has offered some words of comfort and sympathy to the family of Basil “Section 10” Gwangwa after the former player’s passing a few days ago.
Family spokesperson Molatelo Malehopo confirmed that the 57-year-old Gwangwa, who played for Pretoria Callies and Cosmos, among others, passed away at Kalafong Hospital in Tshwane last Thursday (9 November 2023) after a short illness.
“Born in Atteridgeville, he leaves behind a son and is survived by two siblings,” said Malehopo.
Gwangwa’s memorial service will be held at the Atteridgeville Hall today (Thursday) between 1 and 4pm. The funeral service will take place at the Mbolekwa Sports Complex at 7am on Saturday morning (18 November 2023).
Malehopo said Gwangwa will be laid to rest at the Rebecca Cemetery in Tshwane.
