7 June 2023 – The second day of the 2023 ABC Motsepe National Playoffs delivered a great return for home side Umsinga United after they hammered FC Buffalo from the Free State 7-1 to top of Group A with six points and book their ticket to the semi-finals of the prestigious tournament.
The one-sided affair saw Thobani Mthembu scoring a hattrick, with goals also coming from his teammates Mpanza, Masondo, Madela and Sithole. FC Buffalo scored a consolation goal from the penalty spot after a foul on Ramoji.
Young Bafana were dealt a heavy blow after losing their second match of the playoff in Group B, suffering a 3-0 defeat to Upington City in the opening match of the day.
A brace from Willie Nel and goal from Thapelo Tshilo gave the Northern Cape side the three points and a chance to top the group tomorrow (Thursday, 8 June 2023).
Group C saw Mpheni Home Defenders come back from behind to beat Mlambo Royal Cubs 4-2 in the last game of Day Two.
The final round of matches scheduled for Day Three will see FC Buffalo go in search of goals when they take on Dondol Stars in the opening match of the day at 10h30, while Mpheni Home Defenders will be looking to pull one over Orbit College at 13h00.
Group B will be filled with action in the last game of the day as Upington City battle it out against Amavarara FC to top the group at 15h30.
