2 November 2020 – Banyana Banyana will begin their COSAFA Cup title defence against Angola in a much anticipated Group A encounter at the Wolfson Stadium in Nelson Mandela Bay on Tuesday, 3 November 2020 (Kick-off 15h30 pm).
The senior women’s national team first reported for the selection camp from 20 – 27 October 2020 with 27 players who battled it out for the final selection at the SAFA Technical Centre, south of Johannesburg.
After selection camp, the squad was trimmed down to 20 players who travelled to Port Elizabeth where the 2020 COSAFA tournament will be staged to begin with their pre-tournament camp.
Banyana Banyana have won the COSAFA Women’s Championship on three consecutive times and will be gunning for the fourth straight title.
Coach Desiree Ellis comes to this tournament with a different squad from the last edition of the tournament with a blend of new talent and experience.
Speaking to the media, Coach Ellis emphasized that none of their group A opponents will be taken lightly and that is the message she has been preaching to the players to ensure that is the attitude they take to each game.
“We are the defending champions but I won’t say it will be easy. We will going up against teams that began preparations before us. But the players have put in the great work and the competition will begin immediately in the first game,” Ellis said.
SABC Sport will broadcast all Banyana Banyana games and the games will also be streamed LIVE on www.cosafa.tv .
