6 October 2020 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) has extended its heartfelt condolences to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) following the passing of its vice-president, Rix Mweemba.
Mweemba died early Tuesday at a Lusaka hospital where he was receiving treatment. His death was confirmed by FAZ, who stated they were saddened by his passing.
SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan added his voice, saying he was distraught by the sudden death of Mweemba.
“I knew Rix personally. He was an individual who always conducted himself in a respectful manner. Football has lost yet another loyal servant and we extend our condolences to his family, the Football Association of Zambia and all those who knew and worked with him. May his soul rest in peace,” said Dr Jordaan.
FAZ Secretary General, Adrian Kashala said Mweemba’s death was a massive blow for the Association and the country.
“The Football Association of Zambia is mourning the loss of a dedicated and respected servant of Zambian football. Mr Mweemba struck us as an admirable family man. His great work ethic and selflessness cannot be doubted,” said Kashala.
Prior to being appointed as Vice President in April 2017, Mweemba served as FAZ Treasurer and also played a huge role in the restructuring of the Zambia Premier League as chairperson of the League Restructuring Working Group. He was also a FIFA Instructor.
