19 September 2020 – The SAFA NEC on Saturday (19 September) received an administrative report from SAFA CEO in which among other things, the Association is set to realise more than R60m surplus. ‘’Our financial position has stabilised and improved. We will be reporting a surplus for the financial year ending 30 June 2020,’’ said SAFA CEO, Tebogo Motlanthe.
‘’Our draft unaudited financial statements currently indicate a surplus of R60m. Our net current liabilities position has also improved and this will be reflected in the final accounts,’’ added Motlanthe.
The final annual financial statements will be presented once they have been audited by 31 October 2020. ‘’This improved financial position is mainly due to reduced expenditure, inclusion of SABC revenue and cleaning of our balance sheet which included regional grants,” said Motlanthe.
In another development, the NEC resolved to set up an independent panel to interview candidates for the position of the CEO. The interview process will commence immediately once the Covid-19 processes allow for face-to-face interviews. The panel will then make a final recommendation to the SAFA President and NEC for the final approval.
The meeting also resolved that a committee should urgently meet with the Sports Ministry for clarification on matters regarding football and this include both international and amateur football.
Bafana Bafana are scheduled to meet Namibia on 8 October and Zambia on 11 October 2020 and both matches will now be played at home. The two matches are in preparation for crucial back-to-back AFCON Cameroon 2021 matches against Sao Tome.
South Africa play Sao Tome on 13 November at home and travel to the islanders three days later for the return game. Bafana Bafana play the AFCON 2021 penultimate game against Ghana on 25 March 2021 and complete their programme with an away match against Sudan in Khartoum on 30 March.
The meeting expressed sadness and disgust following the senseless killing of SAFA Umkhanyakude Region president Jabulani Nxumalo who was gunned down by two assailants on Thursday evening. SAFA President said the Association will develop a strong response as this trend was completely unacceptable.
Meanwhile, Ms Anastacia Tsichlas and Mr Gladwyn White were duly appointed SAFA Vice-Presidents to fill in the positions left vacant by Ms Ria Ledwaba and Mr Gay Mokoena who were recalled for misconduct.
