15 April 2019 – The race for title honours is getting more intense for the top four in the Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe League. The quadlet consisting of PE Stars, Mthatha Bucks, Bizana Pondo Chiefs and Tornado have set up a what will be a photo finish to the season.
All four sides have had their time at the summit of the table with the most recent being Bucks who edged PE Stars a fort night ago to ascend to the top. Stars, who are now three points behind the log leaders and fourth on the table kept the title hopes alive with a hard fought 3-2 victory over Future Stars.
Mthatha Bucks on the other hand were ruthless in front of goal as they walloped Bush Bucks 5-0 to also gain an advantage on goal difference which could play a role on the last day of the season.
Bizana Pondo Chiefs had to dig deep against a resilient The Guys FC at home as they fought to a 1-0 victory to keep pressure on the log leaders while Tornado were held to a 1-1 stalemate by Peace Makers. The Guys will have to leave everything on the field in their two remaining matches to have any chance of surviving the dreaded dagger.
All four clubs will be giving it their all until the very last day of the season to be crowned champions of Eastern Cape and subsequently book a place in the Play Offs.
Up next for the log leaders is a clash against the wounded Future Tigers before wrapping up the season against Birmingham City.
Chiefs are away to Tornado this coming weekend in what should be an interesting battle at the top before they conclude their season with Peace Makers who are fighting for a respectable finish.
PE Stars, who have had a splendid run until their recent hiccup are up against Birmingham City and will be hoping things go their way in the last day of the season when they face the unpredictable Amavarara FC.
