4 March 2019 – It is all systems go with regards to the Olympic u23 squad, according to coach David Notoane.
The South African u23 team take on Angola on 22 March in Luanda with the return leg scheduled for 26 March.
Notoane who is the current Mamelodi Sundowns MDC coach, will be assisted by Kwanele Kopo, another renowned development coach currently with Supersport United.
Notoane has been busy assessing players and collecting vital data as the assignment against Angola approaches.
“Part of this (assessment) include looking at which players are eligible and their respective strength vis-à-vis that of the opposition,” said Notoane. We have also been collecting information about Angola as you don’t want to meet such type of opposition not knowing what to expect,” he added.
Notoane said he was happy because the country had a good base following FIFA World Cup appearances by the u17 and u20.
“Of course, we would not want to miss any opportunity to infuse new players especially from the National First Division which I have discovered is teeming with great talent.
“I am also checking with coach Thabo Senong on the availability of players who participated in the u20 CAF championship in Niger.”
Notoane is expected to name his squad early next week before going into camp.
