14 August 2018 – Polokwane United head coach and owner, Bally Smart has explained that his team are determined to keep on improving with each season and the upcoming one won’t be different.
Polokwane United finished fourth last season, their highest-ever finish in the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League and Smart said he thinks it wasn’t a bad season.
“I think it was a decent season,” he told MySAFA.net. “In terms of league position, it was our best finish. But in terms of where we wanted to finish, we fell short.”
From the 2014/2015 season till 2017/2018, United have been improving. They finished 12th in the 2014/2015 season, before improving with 11th, 9th and 4th finishes in the following seasons.
The former Norwich City winger who once played his trade in England went on to say that the preseason preparations have gone well so far and the players have shown hunger in the preseason.
“Preparation has gone well so far. This is probably our strongest squad in recent years. Our objective is to finish higher than we did last season and continue to improve our players and football. We will also look to make an impact in the Nedbank Cup and win the VW Top 8 Cup,” The Polokwane-born mentor added.
United was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the SAFA Limpopo VW Top 8 by eventual winners and Limpopo ABC Motsepe League champions The Dolphins FC.
