The South African u20 Men’s National Team (Amajita) will be without captain Tercious Malepe in their opening match of the 2017 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations when they take on Cameroon on Monday, 27 February 2017 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia.

Malepe will be serving his one match suspension following the second yellow card he received in the qualifiers against Lesotho in June last year.

Head Coach Thabo Senong believes that although the captain will be missed, they have prepared for this. “We are fully aware of Malepe’s suspension, and we have prepared accordingly. We have addressed this in our last few training sessions and believe that the players will not struggle in his absence,” said Senong.

“We have obviously had to make some changes in defence – we have shifted players to fill up his position, but we are confident that our strategy will work against Cameroon, who we know are no pushovers.”

The Burger King-sponsored Amajita will be led by vice captain Teboho Mokoena. Goalkeeper Mondli Mpoto is the second vice captain.

The Group B clash between Amajita and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will kickoff at 18h00. Earlier, Senegal will face off with Sudan at 15h00.

The matches will be broadcast live on SuperSport 9.
