29 October 2024 – African champions Banyana Banyana will finally get a chance to show off their pink jersey and at the same highlight an important message when they face the Lionesses of England in a friendly international to be played at the Coventry Building Complex Arena tonight.

The pink jersey is a once-off playing strip that will be used to honour Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is celebrated during the month of October in South Africa. The Breast Cancer Awareness campaign is aimed at honouring women who have been affected by Breast Cancer, while also raising awareness for women to get tested.

Fans are bracing for an intriguing battle between the European champions and their continental counterparts with over 22 000 already sold for the match at the Coventry Building Complex Arena at 19h45 (local time). The game will be broadcast live in South Africa at 21h45 (SA time) on SABC 2 and on SABC Sport.

The Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana have been dealt an injury blow ahead of the match tonight following defender Fikile Magama’s left shoulder injury. Magama will not be available for selection, but the team remains in good spirits ahead of the match. The visitors will be looking to give an improved performance from their last match against Denmark.

England beat South Africa 1-0 in their last meeting in the 2010 Cyprus Cup 14 years ago.
