6 July 2024 – Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos says while he is satisfied with the outcome of the draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, his charges will still need to exercise caution during the race to qualify for the tournament to be held in Morocco next year.

The draw for the 35th edition of the biennial continental tournament was held in Johannesburg on Thursday, 4 July 2024 and Broos’ charges were drawn in Group K where they will face Uganda, Congo and South Sudan.

South African Football Association (SAFA) President Dr Danny Jordaan, Vice Presidents Natasha Tsichlas and Linda Zwane, and CEO Lydia Monyepao were in attendance in Randburg when CAF assigned the 48 competing countries to 12 groups of four.

“When we look at our performances in the AFCON in beginning of the year in Côte d’Ivoire where we achieved the bronze medal, and also in the following games (in the FIFA Series in Algeria), I think we can be very confident. It will be important to achieve our level, our good level of the last few months. We have to say that from this group we have to qualify for AFCON 25 in Morocco,” the Bafana Bafana head coach said from Belgium.

The two top finishers will qualify for the tournament to be hosted in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.
