22 May 2023 – More provinces have concluded their provincial trials for the U15 TDS Interprovincial tournament as the start of the inaugural tournament scheduled for next month (8 July 2023) edges closer.
SAFA Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape and the North West held trials over the weekend and squads that will compete against other provinces and a few invited academies for the U15 Technical Development Scheme (TDS) title will be selected.
The aim of this tournament is to get provinces aligned with the SAFA master plan and ensure that development is active ahead of the selection of the first group for the U15 national team, which will fall under the SAFA Academy.
SAFA Mpumalanga held their provincial trials at Themba Sinamela, Nkangala region, on Saturday (20 May 2023) and will be looking to impress at the highly anticipated tournament. SAFA Eastern Cape held their trials at the Chris Hani region while SAFA North West trials were held at Ngaka Modiri Molema region.
“We are extremely excited about this upcoming tournament, and wish that all stakeholders understand the vision we have for these young kids,” said SAFA Vice President Linda Zwane.
“Development and youth football are the centre of our Vision 2030, and this tournament will be one of our first objectives in ensuring that we deliver on the vision.”
SAFA Limpopo is excepted to conclude their trials this week, while the Free State will have theirs on 27 May. Gauteng will hold their trials on 28 May 2023.
A draw and format will then be communicated in June 2023 before the final squads are released for the July 8 tournament.
