22 April 2023 – The South African under-17 men’s national team has wrapped up a local camp ahead of their departure to Algeria where they will represent the country at the 2023 under-17 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged from 29 April – 19 May 2023.

The team completed two weeks of a local camp which also served as a selection camp for coach Duncan Crowie and his technical team. He announced his final squad for the tournament in the beginning of the week. Coach Duncan Crowie names final squad for Under-17 AFCON | SAFA.net

Speaking to www.safa.com, the coach described the two weeks spent in camp as a success.

“I think it was a good two weeks that we spent together. We put in a lot of work, a lot of tactical work as far as preparation for the games are concerned. The most important thing is that we have come through this unscathed, and we don’t have major injuries,” said Crowie

“We are looking forward to getting to where the tournament is going to be held so that we can acclimatise, and we have a week before our first game. We are getting close to game time and we have polished a few things. The rest will be important because the players have been training twice a day. Managing them now up until the first game on 30 April 2023 is going to be important.”

The team will leave South Africa on Saturday evening (22 April 2023) and they are expected to arrive in Algeria on Sunday morning.
