23 March 2023 – The South African under-23 side was held to a 1-1 draw by Congo Brazzaville in an U23 CAF Olympic first leg qualifier at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Thursday.
The visitors were the first to get their name up on the stadium scoreboard after Love Bissila Mabiala scored the opening goal of the match in the 43rd minute. The South Africans had spurned several opportunities to take control of the match and were punished by Mabiala for not taking advantage.
Coach David Notoane’s charges continued to search for an equaliser in the second half and were finally rewarded when Thapelo Maseko found the back of the net in the 69th minute.
The result set up an intriguing return match when the two sides meet again in the second leg on Monday, 27 March 2023 in Massamba-Debat Stadium.
