1 February 2023 – The South African football fraternity is still reeling after the passing of FIFA Assistant Referee Max Molelekoa last month.

Molelekoa passed away in a car accident on 20 January 2023.

His memorial service will be held at Lenyora la Thuto Secondary School in Botshabelo on Thursday (2 February 2022) and the funeral service will be at the Kaizer Sebothelo Stadium on Sunday (5 February 2023).

Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe joined the many people who are mourning the passing of Moleleko and said in a letter sent to the South African Football Association he was saddened by the tragedy.

“It is with profound sadness that I learned of the passing-on of Mr. Molelekoa Moeketsi. He was an outstanding international Assistant Referee who had been  invited to the upcoming TotalEnergies U20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2023,” the CAF President said.

“Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and the entire South African Football Family.”

A soccer match will be held in Moleleko’s honour at Botshabelo Stadium on Saturday (4 February 2023).
