10 December 2022 – The South African Football Association (SAFA) has congratulated Morocco after the North Africans became the first country from Africa to qualify for the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup.

SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan said Morocco have made the continent proud after a battling 1-0 win over Portugal in the quarter-finals on Saturday, 10 December 2022 confirmed their place in the last four in the world’s biggest sporting showpiece.

“Congratulations to Morocco. A first for Africa, first team in the semi-finals of a World Cup since the inaugural tournament in 1930,” the SAFA President said.
“Africa waited for 92 years. Absolutely wonderful. A wonderful achievement for the Confederation of African Football under the leadership of our President Dr Patrice Motsepe. This is Africa’s best performance at a FIFA World Cup.”
