09 December 2022 – Banyana Banyana’s position remains unchanged in the latest FIFA rankings after the world football governing body released the list on Friday, 9 December 2022.
The reigning Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions are ranked 54th in the world and second on the continent behind fierce rivals Nigeria. The Super Falcons retained top spot on the continental rankings and are 45th on the global list.
The SASOL-sponsored Banyana Banyana played their final match of the year in Europe and it was against Australia’s Matildas in London, United Kingdom, on 8 October 2022.
While the match ended in a 1-4 defeat for coach Desiree Ellis’ charges, the away outing served its purpose as it was part of the team’s preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand from 20 July to 20 August 2023.
Banyana Banyana is in Group G with Sweden (ranked 3rd in the world), Italy (17th) and Argentina (29th).
The team is expected to continue with preparation matches in 2023 and the confirmed calendar will be shared with the public in due course.
