4 December 2022 – Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies dominated the 2022 Hollywoodbets Super League Awards after walking away with the main accolades at the Sandton Convention Centre at the weekend.
Sundowns Ladies were crowned Hollywoodbets Super League champions last month and they continued their winning ways when Boitumelo Rabale was named the Player of the Season on Saturday, 3 December 2022.
Continuing the trend, there were no surprises when the Pretoria-based side’s mentor Jerry Tshabalala won the Coach of the Season award.
In other categories, JVW’s Nompumelelo Nyandeni walked away with the top goalscorer of the season award after finishing with 30 goals during the recently-ended campaign.
Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies’ Katlego Moletsane won Goalkeeper of the Season, while the Young Player of the Season went to Richmond United’s Nthabiseng Majiya.
The match officials were also recognised for their sterling work and Hloniphile Msezane won Referee of the Season while Amogelang Msiza walked away with the Assistant Referee of the Season award.
South African Football Association President Dr Danny Jordaan congratulated all the nominees and winners, and said the Hollywoodbets Super League has continued to grow from strength to strength.
“Next year there will be even more challenges. We must start building towards July and August, to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and Australia,” he said.
“Next year we will also start the process to make a bid for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. We have seen a 32 team World Cup for men in Qatar, and with it the excitement and the growth of football. There is no longer a dominant centre of football anymore.
“It is so for men’s football and it is so for women’s football, and I think the World Cup in New Zealand and Australia will also demonstrate this. But the pillar and foundation for all this growth has been the Hollywoodbets Super League. So we want to thank Hollywoodbets for the support over the years and we look forward to continuing this upward movement so that we can produce a team that can compete next year, and certainly a team that can challenge in 2027 when we host the FIFA Women’s World Cup in our country.
“So, thank you very much for your support and we look forward to continuing the partnership. Thank you very much.”
