27 November 2022 – Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies were officially crowned as the 2022 Hollywoodbets Super League Champions after a thrilling 5-2 victory over Richmond United Ladies in the final match of the season on Saturday afternoon.
This was the Sundowns Ladies team’s third championships in a row after winning the Women’s League since its inception in 2019.
They continue to dominate the league with the best records as they managed to win this year’s title in October 2022, as no other team could have mathematically caught up with them, with eight matches yet to be played.
The Pretoria-based side have also managed to set outstanding records for themselves as they only conceded 13 goals in 30 matches and scored a whopping 127 goals.
They walked away with R2 million and will represent South Africa in the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal qualifiers, where they will be looking to qualify for their third consecutive Champions League. They will also be looking to address some of their shortcomings this year after managing a silver medal at the continental showpiece.
Mafikeng’s Golden Ladies and Tsunami Queens of the Free State were relegated from the Hollywoodbets Super League following the conformation of places.
Limpopo’s Copperbelts Ladies and AmaTuks were promoted to the women’s league for the 2023 campaign.
The Hollywoodbets Super League season awards will be held on Saturday, 3 December 2022, in Johannesburg where individuals who excelled this season will be honoured.
