20 November 2022 – Bafana Bafana were held to a 1-1 draw by Angola during a friendly international played at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, 20 November 2022, but the result enabled the home side to extend their unbeaten run to four matches in a row.
Coach Hugo Broos would have wanted his charges to end the year with a fourth win in a row, but he will be happy that they fought their way back from a goal down to force a share of the spoils in Mpumalanga.
The South African senior men’s national team suffered an early setback when Ambrosini Salvador put the visitors in the lead in the 20th minute.
But Zakhele Lepasa brought the home side level when he scored from the penalty spot to beat visiting goalkeeper Hugo Marques eight minutes later. Referee Joshua Bondo awarded the penalty after Kgaugelo Sekgota was fouled inside the area.
Bafana Bafana’s winning run began in September when Broos’ charges beat Sierra Leone and Botswana in two friendlies played at FNB Stadium. They continued their winning ways when they came back from a goal down to beat Mozambique 2-1 through a well-taken second half brace from Bongokuhle Hlongwane in a friendly international also played at the Mbombela Stadium on Thursday night, 17 November 2022.
