17 November 2022 – Bafana Bafana fought their way back from a goal down to beat neighbours Mozambique 2-1 in an exciting friendly international played at Mbombela stadium on Thursday night, 17 November 2022.

A well-taken second half brace from Bongokuhle Hlongwane completed an impressive comeback that saw coach Hugo Broos’ charges win their third match in a row.

Cheered on by a vociferous crowd in Mbombela, the South African senior men’s national team had to dig in deep at the Mpumalanga stadium as the visitors had raced to an early lead when Nelson Divrassone beat Bafana Bafana captain and goalkeeper Ronwen Williams in the 14th minute.

To their credit, Bafana Bafana never dropped their heads after the early setback and the comeback began when Hlongwane equalised for the home side in the 55th minute, beating Mozambique goalkeeper Ernan Siluane in the near post. Hlongwane was not done and returned to haunt Siluane moments later when he gave the home side the lead.

Bafana Bafana will now look to make it four wins in four matches when they return to Mbombela stadium to host Angola in another friendly match on Sunday, 20 November 2022 (kick off is at 15h00). The winning run began in September when Broos’ charges beat Sierra Leone and Botswana in two friendlies played at FNB Stadium.

Tickets to Sunday’s match are available at Sasol garages, Spar outlets and at Mbombela Stadium itself at between R20 and R50.
