12 November 2022 –  South African Football Association (SAFA) president Dr Danny Jordaan has congratulated Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies team for reaching the final of the Caf Women’s Champions League and also sent the Pretoria side his best wishes in the tournament deciding match on Sunday.

The defending champions reached the final after beating Tanzania’s Simba Queens 1-0 courtesy of a second-half strike from Boitumelo Rabale in Rabat in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

They will now face Morocco club AS FAR in the final after the hosts beat Nigerian club Bayelsa Queens in the other semi-final match.

Dr Jordaan said the Brazilians continue to make the nation proud as they look to defend their Caf Women’s Champions League title at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Sunday.

‘’It will not be easy for Sundowns as they will face AS FAR who will be playing before their vociferous fans. But they are the defending champions and will not be overawed by the occasion,’’ said Dr Jordaan.

‘’We are expecting them to cap a wonderful year for our women’s football by bringing yet another silverware home. They have what it takes to retain their title hence we are rooting for them all the way.’’

Dr Jordaan also credited sponsors HollywoodBets for the role they have played in the rise of women football domestically.

“Hollywood Bets have tremendously helped the growth of women football in the country and through the Hollywood Bets Super League, South Africa have become the best across the African continent,’’ added Dr Jordaan.
