30 October 2022- The South African Under-23 National team qualified for the last round of U23 AFCON qualifiers after playing to a goalless draw against Togo at Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

This after both teams were level 2-2 on aggregate following the first leg away in Togo last weekend.

South Africa progress to the third round on the away goal rule and will face either DR Congo or Tunisia in March next year.

Coach David Notoena’s charges dominated play in both halves of the match but failed to convert any of their chances. SA goalkeeper Lincoln Vyver also made some crucial saves on the rare occasions when the Togolese attacked.

“The objective was reached as we managed to qualify for the next round and more importantly not concede any goals today;” said Notoane after the match.

“We dominated the match and had our chances, but our players are still inexperienced and this is something we will work on going forward,” concluded Notoane.
