23 October 2022 – Limpopo side Copperbelt Ladies were crowned 2022 Sasol League National Champions after beating Tuks Ladies 3-2 on penalties in the final at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The two sides were level at 1-1 after 90 minutes and it was left to the lottery of a shootout to decide the outcome of the game. Sinamile Mkhwanazi had given Tuks the lead on the stroke of halftime but Tuks defender Betty Mallela conceded an own goal early in the second half to bring Copperbelt Ladies back into the match.
The match ended at 1-1 and the Limpopo-based side took advantage of their home ground, holding their nerve to win the penalty shootout and become the first team from the province be crowned Sasol League National Champions.
Copperbelt Ladies walked away with the R200 000 prize money, while Tuks will receive R100 000.
Both teams will now participate in the Hollywoodbets Super League.
Nomphelo Yakupi of Copperbelt Ladies performed brilliantly and was rewarded further when she walked away with the Top goalscorer and Player of the Tournament awards.
Tuks goalkeeper Sindisiwe Duma received the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award, while Nonjabulo Ndela and Nomthetho Mbatsha received Referee and assistant Referee of the Tournament gongs respectively.
