22 October 2022 – The South Africa Under-23 Men’s national team arrived in Togo on Friday ahead of Sunday’s Morocco 2023 AFCON Second Round qualifier against the West Africans and immediately got to work.

Coach David Notoane conducted his first training session a few hours after arrival following a long journey from Johannesburg that included a layover in Ethiopia.

“We had a recovery session, and then had a training session to flush out the travel. We also did some tactical planning and finalisations,” Notoane said.

“Everything is looking good, the energy levels of the boys are very, very good as well. In term of preparations, we have had tactical fine-tuning and we look forward to the final session today (Saturday) with set-plays, tweaking a few things and then finalising our squad for Sunday’s match.

“So far it is looking good, the energy is good, no injuries and a clean bill of health for all the players. The hospitality of the Togolese must also be commended. We have been well-received, well-looked-after and we hope it stays this way until after the game and we do not encounter any problems here.”

Notoane is confident of getting a result against Togo in their own backyard and has backed his charges to put up a strong fight against the West Africans. The return match between the two sides will be played at Orlando Stadium on the weekend of October 28-30.
