31 August 2022 – South African Football Association (SAFA) president Dr Danny Jordaan has called on football fans to descend on Orlando stadium in large numbers when Banyana Banyana face Brazil in the first of two friendly internationals on Friday evening (2 September 2022).

The SASOL-sponsored African champions meet the South Americans at the Soweto venue at 18h00 on Friday and then move the action to Moses Mabhida in Durban on Monday, 5 September 2022. Dr Jordaan urged South Africans to create a festive atmosphere when the two continental champions – Brazil won Copa America Femenina in July for a record eighth time – meet in the two games.

“I saw the 2022 Copa América Femenina final [between Brazil and Colombia at Estadio Alfonso López] and it was a full stadium,” Dr Jordaan said.

“Banyana Banyana’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final against Morocco in Morocco was also a full stadium. The UEFA Women’s Euro Final between England and Germany, full stadium.

“So we hope that women’s football fans will come and fill Orlando Stadium. The Brazil manager already already said they expect a full stadium. When they produce wonderful football, they want to see a full stadium.

“So we call on our people to come and support two of the best women’s teams from two continents. They are going to see wonderful, I am sure of that. We call on them to fill up the stadium.”

Tickets to the high-profile friendly international became available through Ticketpro from Tuesday afternoon.

The tickets for both matches cost R50 for all ages and they are also available online.
