29 August 2022 – African champions Banyana Banyana have assembled for camp in Johannesburg ahead of their two international friendly matches against Copa América Femenina champions Brazil.

The 23-member squad announced by coach Desiree Ellis on Saturday, 27 August 2022 has assembled for the first time since their Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph in Morocco last month.

While the SASOL-sponsored side is dominated by the players who were part of the WAFCON-winning squad, Ellis has given the nod to young talents such Asanda Hadede, Lonathemba Mhlongo and Thubelihle Shamase.

The South African senior women’s team play the first match against Brazil at Orlando Stadium on Friday, 2 September 2022 at 18h00. The second encounter will follow three days later at a venue that is yet to be confirmed.

The two friendlies will serve as part of Banyana Banyana’s preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand next year.
