23 July 2022 – Thembi Kgatlana may not be with her Banyana Banyana colleagues as they prepare to face hosts Morocco in the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nation (WAFCON) at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium tonight, but the star player will be with them in spirit.

Kgatlana was ruled out of the tournament with an Achilles injury in the SASOL-sponsored South African senior national team’s WAFCON group match against Botswana, but this has not stopped her from continuing to maintain contact with the camp, constantly sending messages to the team and reminding them of their objective in Morocco.

She sent more messages today as the countdown continues to tonight’s final.

“Good morning Champions! This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad. Let’s go and bring that Trophy home, be sure because the Lord has gone ahead of us,” said Kgatlana.

“Enjoy yourselves, I’ll be cheering for you all the way.”

The players have also dedicated their journey to Kgatlana and have assured her that they will continue with the fight.

“Thembi this is for you. We know that you are always supportive of us and screaming at your TV screen when we play,” Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Andile Dlamini told www.www.safa.net in Rabat.

“We will continue to fight. However, please don’t injure yourself again when you are watching and supporting us.”
