16 July 2022 – Bafana Bafana, together with the other five national teams remaining at this Year’s COSAFA Cup tournament, were invited to Moses Mabhida Stadium as tournament organisers handed out 50 blankets and mattresses to the Ntokozo Sikhakhane Foundation.

Among the dignitaries who were in attendance were SAFA NEC members Tankiso Modipa, Jack Maluleke, Mxolisi Sibam and Kwenzakwakhe Ngwenya, to name a few.

Ngwenya, who also serves as SAFA’s Provincial Chairperson of KwaZulu-Natal, addressed all the national teams in attendance, adding that COSAFA hosted yet another successful football with South Africa as the hosts.

The KwaZulu-Natal SAFA provincial person also stated that he believed the donation made by COSAFA to the Ntokozo Sikhakhane Foundation will go a long way in helping those who are in need.

“I would like to thank all the national teams who competed at this year’s COSAFA Cup tournament,” Ngwenya said. “You carried yourselves really well both on and off the field and on behalf of SAFA as the provincial chairperson of KwaZulu-Natal, I would like to command you for that.

“I also believe, as we hand over these blankets and mattresses to the Ntokozo Sikhakhane Foundation, they will go a long way in helping out those who are in need within our communities.”

Meanwhile, Sikhakhane, who is the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, said he felt honoured by the gesture, adding that this is the first donation his foundation has received since it started in 2019.

The 39-year old also wished Bafana Bafana well in their COSAFA Cup Plate final on Sunday against Botswana. That match will take place at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium at 10h00.

“I started this foundation back in 2019 with the intention of giving back to the community in various ways, including through sports, too,” Sikhakhane said. “I am really happy with this handover as I believe it will go a long way in touching so many lives that are less fortunate, especially after the floods hit KwaZulu-Natal.

“I would also like to wish Bafana Bafana well in their COSAFA Plate final against Botswana on Sunday,” Sikhakhane said. “This is a young side and this experience will go a long way in helping them to grow as up and coming future Bafana Bafana players.”
