13 July 2022 – Bafana Bafana were knocked out of this year’s COSAFA Cup tournament after losing 5-4 on penalties following a 0-0 draw against Mozambique at King Zwelithini Stadium.
They will now compete for the Plate, with Madagascar being their semi-final opponents in a match that is scheduled to take place at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on 15 July 2022 (Kick-off 12h00).
The youthful Bafana Bafana side gave a spirited fight in both halves of the match but lacked the needed luck to finish off their chances. Mozambique, on the other hand, played defensive football, lacking the needed aggression up front against an Under-21 Bafana Bafana side that coach Helman Mkhalele had assembled as South Africa continue with their preparations for the upcoming 2024 Olympic qualifiers.
