10 July 2022 – It will be a regional clash when the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana lock horns with neighbours Botswana to close off the group stages of WAFCON. 

The two sides last faced off in an international friendly in April 2021 with Banyana Banyana winning the game 2-0.Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis said her troops will begunning for all three points for a strong finish at the top ofGroup C.

“We have not prepared any differently. There is little time in between games (two days), it’s just about making sure that wemaintain everything. But we know a lot about Botswana as much as I think they know of us. We have played each other on numerous occasions,” the coach told the media in Morocco. 

“The not so good game was back in 2019 when they knocked us out of the Olympics. So we know the threat that they pose. We have also since gone on to play them on numerous occasions and we got positive results.

“We want to make sure that we end top of the group and get maximum points.” 

Banyana Banyana co-captain Janine Van Wyk highlighted the mood in camp and the importance of staying focused to progress further in the completion. 

“I think the morale in camp is very high, everyone is excited to be here, especially after our two convincing wins that have made us qualify for the next round,” said Van Wyk.

“We are really looking forward to our next match against Botswana our neighbouring country. We know it will be a mouth-watering encounter as always is.

“Spirits are high but everyone is remaining focused and concentrated on the task ahead in order to continue to get the results possible for the progression in the tournament.”
