14 June 2022 – Only one team managed to attain victory in the opening day of the 2022 ABC Motsepe National Playoffs and the Limpopo side Magesi FC took full advantage to surge to the top of the table on Tuesday.
Magesi FC hammered Northern Cape’s Real Madrid 3-1 in the last match of the day to go top of the playoff standings. The Limpopo side’s forwards were in top form as they delivered a clinical display that was complimented by the beautiful goals they scored on the day. Tshepang Maphosa opened the Magesi FC’s account in the 20th minute with a great tap-in and Gopolang Seema increased the lead when he stunned the Madrid keeper in the 37th minute with a goal scored from the corner kick.
Real Madrid managed to pull a goal back in their bid to haul themselves back into the match when Kamegelo Shounyane got one past the Magesi keeper in the 68th minute, but Dawny Makgatho put the nail on the coffin with his 90th minute strike to give Magesi the win.
In the other matches also played on the day, Summerfield Dynamos from KwaZulu-Natal drew 1-1 with Mpumalanga’s Bayern FC.
Gauteng’s MM Platinum failed to take advantage of the pace they had in their match against Dikwena of the Free State as this match ended in a stalemate.
