7 June 2022 – World football governing body FIFA and the South African Football Association (SAFA) are currently undertaking a Goalkeeper Coaching Course at the SAFA Technical Centre in the south of Johannesburg with 25 coaches from around the country in attendance.
FIFA instructor Alejandro Heredia is running the course between 6-10 June 2022.
The 25 participants of the course are renowned goalkeepers who are legends in their own right and are currently active as coaches at national team and club structures.
They are Lucky Shiburi, Delisle Mbatha, Cameron Cox, Adolph Mabotja, Monde Hlatshwayo, Dominic Ramokgopa, Tshepo Makgata, David Ribeiro, Tyron Damonds, Thembalethu Moses, Rory Minaar, Itumeleng Khune, Aubrey Mothibe, Wendell Robinson, Moeneeb Josephs, Thabang Stemmer, Pernell McKop, Sean Lowu, Rowen Fernandes, Shuaib Walters, Musa Langa, Sipho Zimba, Marcus Mashil and Greg Etafia.
“South Africa is blessed with a lot of rare talent which needs to be nurtured and guided in the correct direction.
“The participants of this course are all South African legends who clearly have intentions of becoming goalkeeper coaches,” says Heredia.
“We are so glad that SAFA has reached out to FIFA to empower these participants who clearly know the game, have played the game and now want to give back to the game.”
