26 January 2022 – The two schools that will represent South Africa at the inaugural Pan African Inter Schools competition, will be decided in a tournament that will be held from 3-6 February in the Free State capital of Bloemfontein.

The continental championship will take place from 17-21 February in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The world football governing body, FIFA in conjunction with CAF, launched the pilot project of Pan African Inter Schools Football Association in 2021, where two schools will represent their country in the First Edition to be staged in DRC.  

According to a CAF circular, the Pan-African Schools Football Championship is aimed at promoting school football by reinforcing the importance of football as a driving force to change on the continent and a means to prepare the future leaders of football.  South Africa’s U16 girls and boys representives for this inaugural tournament will be confirmed in Bloemfontein when participating schools go head to head in a round robin tournament from 3 -6 February 2021.  

The 9 female and males teams which will compete where decided via Provincial school games which took place between October and December last year. The best schools will have an opportunity to face other schools from the continent in DRC next month.
