30 November 2021 – Following a national address by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday, 28 November, SAFA and sponsors Sasol have resolved that the final of the Sasol League National Playoffs will be played without spectators.

The initial decision was that the final, which is now scheduled for 12 December at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban, will be played in front of spectators but following the advent of Covid-19 Omicron variant and increases in the number of COVD-19 cases, that decision has been reversed.
The Sasol League national play offs will take place from 6-12 December at King Zwelithini and Princess Magogo Stadiums.

SAFA Chief Medical Officer, Dr Thulani Ngwenya said because of the new variant and directives from national government, they will now put extra precaution into the play offs including playing the matches in a mini bio bubble environment to minimise the spread of the infectious disease.

‘’We will not have spectators during the final, not even those vaccinated because this particular variant, while so far it seems it does not cause serious illness, spreads rapidly,’’ said Dr Ngwenya.
