23 November 2021 – African champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies team, on Tuesday (23 November 2021), paid a courtesy call to SAFA President, Dr Danny Jordaan at SAFA House to show him the CAF Women’s Champions League trophy.

The all-conquering Sundowns Ladies beat Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies 2-0 in Cairo, Egypt to win the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League and in the process became the first team on the African continent to win both the men and women continental titles.

Recalling the Women’s championship tournament in Egypt, Dr Jordaan said he almost had ‘a heart attack’ during the semi-final match between Sundowns and Malabo of Equatorial Guinea which had to be decided on penalties after the match had ended in a goalless draw.

‘’I am glad because you left the best for the last. You played your best football of the tournament during the final where you showed your class,’’ he told a full complement of Sundowns Ladies team which was accompanied by chairman, Tlhopie Motsepe.

The SAFA President reminded Sundowns Ladies that they will have to do this all over again next year.

“You need to do this all over again next year, win the COSAFA Regional play offs and qualify for the CAF Champions League tournament. And if you win again next year, there is an added incentive because the ultimate CAF winners will qualify for the FIFA Women’s Club championship,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Tlhopie Motsepe paid tribute to SAFA President and his team for the huge investment they have ploughed into women’s football.
‘’I want to thank you Mr President for the investment you have put into women’s football and today we bring you some of those rewards from the hard work you have put in women’s football.

‘’I am happy to share the rewards of these successes with you today. There is a lot that needs to be done however and we will compliment your hard work going forward,’’ said Motsepe.
He said the aim now was to go a step further and not only win the continental title but go on and do well at the FIFA Women Club World championship.
