05 October 2021 – The Bafana Bafana 23 man squad hand-picked by Coach Hugo Broos and his assistants to face off against Ethiopia in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier Qatar 2022 clash, both home and away, are all in camp.

Broos made changes to the squad that last played against Zimbabwe and Ghana last month, and the inclusions are Sifiso Hlanti, Terence Mashego, Thabani Zuke, Luke Fleurs (Mosa Lebusa), Vincent Pule, Tshegofatso Mabasa and Jesse Donn (Goodman Mosele).

The coach has mentioned that apart from playing football there are other qualities that he requires for a team to be fully fit. “It is not only about playing football, it’s about  leadership, team work and how players interact and assist one another on the pitch as well as off. My observations are not only when we are at practice or on game day but I’m continuously keeping an eye. The off the pitch element is important too,” said coach Broos.

Luke Fleurs replaces Mosa Lebusa who has a quad strain while Jesse Donn replaces Goodman Mosele who did not report for national duty, despite all efforts made to contact the player.

Having coached on the continent, Broos undeniably states that the standard of football in the country is exceptional and with extra ground work he believes that there is no reason why Bafana Bafana cannot be the best. “So far the players are delivering what I have asked and as we get to know each other things will continue to improve until we are where I envision,” said the national team coach.

The team jet off to Ethiopia on Thursday for the away leg to be played on the 9th October at  Bahir Dar Stadium at 15h00. The return leg will be played at FNB Stadium on the 12th October at 18h00.
