7 September 2021 – FIFA Secretary General, Fatma Samoura has called on the private sector and government to invest more in women’s football.

The SG who is in the country is being accompanied by FIFA Women’s Football Officer, Sarai Bareman.
Her delegation which was hosted by SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan and CEO, Advocate Tebogo Motlanthe also met Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa.

The FIFA SG told Minister Mthethwa that it was imperative that processes begin to allow spectators back into the stadiums. She encouraged people to get vaccinated if this process was to be expedited.


‘’Spectators are the most critical stakeholders in the sport and the earlier they return to the stadiums the better,’’ she told government and SAFA delegation.

Minister Mthethwa agreed that the return of spectators to the stadiums was long overdue and would begin the process by engaging all the stakeholders which include the football controlling body, the clubs and all concerned.

Later in the day, the FIFA SG met SAFA sponsors that included SAB, SASOL, Le Coq Sportif, Hollywoodbets and public broadcaster SABC.
