The Bafana Bafana team have a full player compliment.
Gift Links and Luther Singh have entered the ‘bubble’ meaning that all 23 players that have been selected are present for national duty, with the inclusion of one more.
Njabulo Ngcobo received a late call up amidst media frenzy of his exclusion. His call up is not a replacement but merely cautionary, on the defensive midfielder’s position of Mothobi Mvala who has injury concerns.
“There is slight concern on Mvala who has a groin strain which the medical team is working on,” Team Doctor Tshepo Molobi.
Furthermore Siyanda Xulu who took a knock playing for his team, Hapoel Tel Aviv two weeks ago resulting in a minor head injury. “Stitches will be removed today and he will be off the injury-concerns list but I will be monitoring him closely,” said the team doctor.
So far the team have had four rounds of Covid-19 tests for every single member present (players and staff) in the bubble and it’s good news all around so far.
“Traveling in a pandemic is not easy. We have taken lessons from past camps and have decided that casting a ‘bubble’ lessens the spread and keeps everyone safe, especially with the team traveling internationally, every precaution has been taken,” Dr. Molobi explained.
The only permeation of the ‘bubble’ that started on Sunday, has been the welcoming of press at the media conference conducted at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Monday, other than that the team is under lockdown to curb the spread of the virus and ensure that the team is safe.
The team will depart for Harare, Zimbabwe on Wednesday afternoon 1st September. They play Zimbabwe on Friday 3rd September at 3pm – arriving back in South Africa on Saturday the 4th September.
The game against Ghana at FNB stadium is scheduled for Monday the 6th September at 18:00.
